From the term after a child's third birthday, all 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to a free nursery education place for up to 6 terms before they reach statutory school age (the beginning of the term following their 5th birthday.)
Funding is provided for a maximum of 15 hours per week for 38 weeks a year.
If your child is attending more than one playgroup/nursery/accredited childminder, the claim will be allocated between the two settings on a strict pro-rata basis using the following formula:
Start with: Total qualifying hours attended at this establishment (max 6 hours per day).
Divide by: Total qualifying hours attended at all establishments (max 6 hours per day).
Multiply by: 15 hours available.
The result will then be rounded to the nearest whole number (unless it is 7.5 hours at each) to give the free hours claimed at this establishment. The total claimed at all establishments cannot be more than 15 hours.
If your child is attending a school maintained nursery for 15 hours a week there will be no assistance available for an additional placement within a private setting.
If your child is attending a school maintained nursery for less than 15 hours per week, assistance may be available for the balance of hours up to the maximum of 15 hours per week.
Claims for children who do not live in the Leeds area but attend a setting within Leeds, will be met by Leeds City Council.
